WatchThis, a social network for movie lovers.

WatchThis is an ongoing project I'm working on with my good friend Kevin Bongart (together we form 0to88). We envision the product together, he works on the back end and I do the front end. I'm very proud of what we've accomplished. Go check it out.

UI Design intern at Agence France Presse (AFP)

AFP is one of the top 3 press Agencies in the world, with AP and Reuters. They have a research lab that does amazing work but they struggled to show it off to management, so they hired me to design creative interfaces that used their APIs.

This internship was obviously a ton of fun. I worked on interfaces to display news on TV (in a waiting room, or on the reporting floor for instance), and on a redesign of the main application used by journalists.

“Alexandre has an ‘Apple’ touch for design and innovation. During his six months practice with us, he showed very good skills at programming and designing innovative user interface, either rich internet application or iPhone app prototype. His designs were especially very successful with end-users.” Denis Teyssou, Medialab R&D Editorial manager

Maxime, a portfolio for my non tech-savvy brother.

My brother (NSFW) is a really talented artist, but he's not really good at using his computer… I wanted to make him a website he would be able to update by himself. This website needed to look professional and customized to his needs (so not Flickr). I didn't want him to learn something new – and he wouldn't want to have to learn a new thing anyway. So the solution was to use something he knew. Flickr seemed to be the only viable candidate.

The app's categories are actually tags on Flickr (not sets because Flickr limits free accounts to 3 sets and my brother is not only an artist, he's also a student!). The code is very basic. It pulls the title and description of each photo. I use the masonry plugin for the category page to make everything look neat.

StockRegrets, for people filled with regrets.

This was my first project in Ruby, I did it mostly to learn the language. I often look at Apple's stock and think "man, I really wish I had bought some of that when entering college" or I look at AIG and am glad I just sat there and kept my money in a shoebox. The site is fun to use and was fun to make.

The source is on GitHub. Often years before 2005 don't work, and I'm too busy to fix it.

Coat or not?, giving meaning to the weather.

I was sick of having to open my window to figure out if I needed to wear a coat or not. Yep, I'm that lazy.

The hardest part was to find a good, free weather API. Google has one via its iGoogle widget but it took some reverse engineering.

Our band is called…

Kevin had this fun idea to do a band name generator, complete with name and cover for the first album. I made it pretty.
